Mediterranean Fig Jar
Luscious figs and leaves wind their way around this jar, with a subtle orange and yellow color block background. The lid is made of ash, painted black to highlight the jar decoration. It could be used in the kitchen to hold coffee, tea bags, dry baking ingredients or garlic bulbs. it would also be a great accent piece anywhere in the house, holding any number of small items.
Top Diameter: 4-1/4”
Bottom Diameter: 3”
Height: 6-1/2” with lid, 4-1/2” jar only
Figs are grown throughout the Mediterranean region as well as in California and Florida. While not yet endangered, they are threatened by rising temperatures which shorten the lifespan of the tiny fig wasps that pollinate them, making it difficult for pollination to be completed. Additionally, drought and habitat loss due to deforestation are putting pressure on fig trees, decreasing their yields. Scientists are studying different fig varieties to find those that are most resilient to heat and drought.
