Orleans Vase

$33.00

This vase was buried in a pit to be fired, along with wood chips, seaweed, corn husks, coffee grounds and other organic materials. Flames created the fantastic interplay of colors—red, orange, gunmetal, black and white. It would make a great decorative accent on a table, shelf or mantle.

Height: 4”
Top Diameter: 3”
Bottom Diameter: 2”

In the Orleans Ranger District of Six Rivers National Forest in northern California, the indigenous Yurok people have created the Cultural Fire Management Council to protect the area against wildfires. The Yuroks have known for centuries that fire is a natural part of the forest ecosystem and keeps everything in balance. Regular, controlled burns reduce the understory and eliminate the fuel that wildfires feed on.
