Comstock Bowl

$109.00

Cottonwood is usually not such a pretty wood, but this bowl is definitely the exception to that rule. Its light/dark contrasts are accented by spalting, which occurs when fungi colonize the tree and extract nutrients from it, leaving behind dark lined patterns. A stunning piece, it would be a fabulous fruit bowl or salad bowl.

Top Diameter: 12”
Bottom Diameter: 5-1/4”
Height: 4”

Growing up on a farm in New York in the late 1800s, Anna Comstock developed an appreciation for the wonder and beauty of the natural world. She wrote numerous books with her husband and then on her own, including The Handbook of Nature Study, which is still a standard textbook today. She was the first female professor at Cornell University and also designed the first outdoor nature studies program for children.
