Greene Bowl

$47.00

Juniper often has a wonderful contrast between the reddish-brown heartwood in the center of the tree and the lighter sapwood surrounding it. This unusual bowl takes that contrast to a whole new level, with rings of color emanating from the center pith. A bit of bark remains at the top, highlighting the undulating rim.

Height: 4”
Top Diameter: 5-3/4”
Bottom Diameter: 3”

Members of the cypress family, juniper trees thrive on dry, rocky slopes and mountainous regions, especially in the western U.S. David Greene, of Cal Poly Humboldt, studied the endangered Baker cypress in northern California. He examined their reproduction challenges and suggested controlled burns to clear competing vegetation, thereby creating more room for new growth. A forest ecologist, he studies the regeneration after wildfires.
