St. Hilaire Bowl

$52.00
sold out

When we get an amazing piece of wood, we create a simple shape in order to let the wood shine. This spalted maple bowl is a prime example. Spalting occurs when fungi colonize the tree and extract nutrients from it, leaving behind dark lined patterns. A stunning decorative piece, the bowl has a food-safe finish so may also be used for serving.

Top Diameter: 6-5/8”
Bottom Diameter: 3-1/2”
Height: 2-3/8”

Rolston St. Hilaire is head of the Department of Plant and Environmental Science at New Mexico State University. He received the school’s Intellectual Property Award in 2022 for his work on developing a maple tree suitable for the desert environment. Since the start of his career, he has been fascinated by maples for their diversity and brilliant color. He developed the Mesa Glow bigtooth maple, which became commercially available in 2016.
